Caramel pound cake

This past weekend I made a caramel pound cake. I got the recipe from Saveur magazine.

I suppose it's caramel because of the brown sugar in both the cake and the icing. It was delicious! The cake was moist, and the icing was tasty. Although, I will admit that the icing was very sweet- almost too sweet. I usually don't like icing so sweet.

I think the cake was more moist than a normal pound cake because of the brown sugar. I recently learned that brown sugar makes cakes moist and keeps them moist because the molasses pulls moisture from the air. Thanks, Alton Brown!

This cake is a definite make again cake. Even Dave liked it, and he isn't normally a fan of pound cake. I happen to love pound cake, so I'm always happy to find another good recipe.

Doctor Who: The Tenth Planet

The First Doctor's tenure comes to an end with this story.

the Doctor, Polly, and Ben

The Doctor, Polly, and Ben land on the South Pole of Earth in 1986. They get taken underground to a military base, where they learn that a planet is moving toward the Earth. It's Mondas! The Earth's old twin and home of the Cybermen, who appear for the first time in this story. Cybermen land and try to act menacing. But they can't.

the first Cybermen

I mean, look at them. Early Cybermen aren't menacing at all. Their voices are kind of ridiculous, and they look silly.

The Cyberman are sucking all the energy out of the Earth and pumping it into Mondas. But don't worry- they say they'll take everyone back to Mondas and turn them into Cybermen. Oh, great. Cutting to the chase, their plan is foiled and Mondas explodes.

The Doctor rushes back to the TARDIS and collapses on the floor. Polly and Ben run over to him and see him change into Patrick Troughton.

The 2nd Doctor era begins!

This is, of course, the first time the Doctor has regenerated. With Patrick Troughon comes a new Doctor- a Doctor that is funny, a little wacky and crazy, and fun. This is the Doctor's baseline personality moving forward, not the grumpus of the First Doctor. A lot of people don't like the First Doctor for that reason. He isn't like the others. But he was the first, and I respect him for that. I take him for what he is.

I'm excited for the Second Doctor era. He's one of my favorites, if not my favorite. I have a hard time deciding between him and the Fourth. He also has some of my favorite companions. Good times ahead!
