Single White Necromancer Seeks Same

A friend of mine published a book. He's a brilliant writer, and I'm so proud of him! Right now it's available at Amazon.com as an ebook. I don't have a Kindle, but I can read it on my computer or download a Kindle app to read it on my phone.

The name of this book? Single White Necromancer Seeks Same. From the description:

"When Genevieve's auguries point to the imminent end of the world, she does what any modern young necromancer would do, and places an ad in the online personals.

If you only read one Lovecraftian Horror/screwball comedy this year, make it this one!"

My own summary? In years in which a full moon falls on Halloween, good and evil battle it out to see if the world is going to end. This is one of those years.

That's my photo on the cover, too. The book is fantastic. Check it out.

Homemade oreos

I tried another recipe from Flour last night- homemade oreos. It's not like I was craving oreos. I happened to have all the ingredients, so that's what I made.

During every step of the process, I was convinced these wouldn't turn out right. I didn't think it looked how it should. I didn't think the dough was the consistency it should be.

When I went to slice the log of dough, some of the slices were falling apart and I had to mush them back together. I probably should have let the dough refrigerate longer, but I was impatient for cookies!

In the end, these cookies were amazing. Of course they were. Everything from Flour is amazing. The texture of the chocolate cookies was just like oreos. The filling, dare I say it, surpassed that of oreos.

I wasn't just pleasantly surprised that the cookies turned out okay. I was blown away by how I had made oreos at home. Giant oreos. Crunchy, delicious oreos.

Yum.

Doctor Who: Planet of Giants

Right off the bat, I'm going to say that this one is pretty bad. It's gimmicky, and it doesn't work for me. The entire story revolves around the fact that the crew of the TARDIS has been shrunk to the size of an inch.

What is that crazy cape?

The Doctor is extra grumpy and condescending to Ian and Barbara in the beginning of the episode. Big surprise there. Somehow the TARDIS doors open during materialization, and "space pressure" makes them all small. Except, why is the TARDIS small, too? They don't realize they're small until they go outside and see giant ants and earthworms and matchboxes. One thing I found funny was that when the Doctor splits them up to go exploring, he pairs himself with Barbara; Ian loudly sighs in this horribly disappointed way. Hee! Ian has such a thing for Barbara.

The next episode is "The Dalek Invasion of Earth." There are a few good things I remember from that one, not least of which is that it's the episode in which Susan says her goodbye.

THE RUNDOWN

Doctor: First
Companions: Ian, Barbara, Susan
Episode: #9, "Planet of Giants," three parts- 'Planet of Giants,' 'Dangerous Journey,' 'Crisis'
Adversary: Giant things? Pesticide?
Classic Lines: the Doctor to Ian, on whether the Doctor can return them to normal size, "Of course I can, dear boy, of course I can...I hope."
Tuck This Away to Impress Your Friends: Susan says that the most dangerous part of a journey in the TARDIS is materialization.
Next Up: "The Dalek Invasion of Earth"
